Low rating for excessive pricing. About a week ago, I brought my car in to be diagnosed as I suspected a transmission issue. The mechanic (who was very pleasant) test drove the vehicle and ran the codes in my car and found a P1738 (2nd pressure switch failure). He explained it clearly to me and I found working with him to be pleasant. However, my experience soured when I asked Danny for a quote to repair this pressure switch. Instead of quoting me for this repair, I was quoted $2795 to rebuild the entire transmission. My transmission was rebuilt in 2018 and still in good working order (besides the pressure switch issue). There was absolutely no need for a complete rebuild. I asked Danny again whether the issue could not be addressed without a transmission rebuild and he said no. That didn't sound right so I decided to explore other options. Today, I brought the car into another shop and they were able to replace all my pressure switches for a total of $140 (parts and labor combined). They also found no other transmission-related issues that needed repair. In terms of cost, that is a $2655 difference. All in all, I was quoted for work that did not need to be done, instead of the work that I really needed done, which was a pressure switch replacement. Needless to say, I will not be returning to Island Car Care.
Mrs Anderson I’m glad you got your vehicle repaired, however I think it’s a bandaid and not actually resolving a deeper issue. You mentioned that the transmission was rebuilt in 2018, I recommended first that you go back to that shop in the hope that it would be still under warranty. In addition, your vehicle and a few of the Nissan models are known to have a long standing issue with their CVT transmissions. With that in mind I didn’t want to do a temporary fix so my thought was to replace it with a new one from the manufacturer. Not a few build, but new, with modifications made so that it doesn’t break down again. In any case I appreciate the feedback and understand that I could have done better in explaining, or in seeing it your way as well. I hope the vehicle runs well and that you enjoy the rest of the summer safely. All the best, Danny.
