For 2001 Mercedes: Driven through large puddle of water. An initial determination should have been made by a car professional that the cost was not worth it to make the car operational. Specifically, by starting the car by charging the old battery or letting me bring the free replacement and running diagnostic on check engine line FIRST not last would have led me to conclude it was not worth $2994 let alone another $1394 that one HONEST step DONE FIRST NOT LAST would have revealed to JUNK and minimize my cost on labor to probably $500 and no parts. Instead, they did a part by part strategy to rebuild the car that would have cost me $10,000 and still no guarantee. Took 16 hours of labor -$2550 to diagnose and replace parts mercedes key $750 (old key worked with charged battery), alternator $641 (old one worked but didn’t charge battery which I told them ahead of time, new battery $310, (told them dead due to sitting and the free replacement of my battery wasn’t acceptable bc they didn’t like that brand), water pump $181, Idle pulley $77, Drive belt $69, Thermostat $88, Coolant $44 and reveal why check engine light is on for -$2200 in parts. But, needs another $2994 from check engine light reveal plus $1341 for brake booster to make the car operate (maybe). THAT COULD HAVE BEEN DETERMINED IN THE FIRST DAY OF THE FIRST HOUR OF DIAGNOSTICS AT A TOTAL COST OF $155 LABOR!!! I blame myself for trusting them. But, I’m going to have the NYS Attorney General’s Office review what took place as I’m out $5000+ and still have a car that doesn’t operate properly… CONTRARY to the “Owner’s Response”- THE TRUTH is that I wanted the car to function or junk it. The cheapest easiest way to make that determination was to do check engine light FIRST NOT LAST which revealed a $$$ amount that would have justified junking it and replacing it. But, per the “honest” Owner it’s all my fault and while I have $5000 to get scammed out of I don’t have money to buy another vehicle. CLEARLY, The Owner wanted to string me along fixing a part here and there to see if the car works at some unknown point in time which is great for the Owner because he thought I was some uneducated fool. In fact, he wanted another $5000 to fix more parts with no guarantee the car would function or pass NYS Inspection. I listed the parts and labor accurately and gave my OPINION how they should have proceeded to make an INITIAL DETERMINATION to proceed with repairs or junk it. UPDATE: The car is dead and the $750 key didn’t work which is no surprise given the battery light error was ON when the car was picked up and shown to the Owner. I wasn’t going in for a simple oil change or other minor job warranting 5 stars. I needed an honest expert mechanic. I foolishly relied on the company’s unanimous 5 star company page which obviously was manipulated as the owner failed to post my 1 star review. I hope the NYS Attorney Generals Office expedites their investigation…
Wow... unreal... truth is you just cant make some people happy. After all the effort I did to explain to you and to save you money... the hours trying to resolve issues at no charge to you because the car has so many problems and this is the thanks??? Its ok John, I hope that leaving this review makes you feel a little better but you, me and the mechanic who spent hours tirelessly working on your car knows the truth as well. We had multiple discussions about the value of the car and you said you have no other option and YOU WANT TO FIX IT. How can I determine value when the car came on a tow truck completely dead? Its not possible. Lastly, regarding the key and battery... you went through water, not me. You're the one who knew the key was empty inside, not me so please do not blame us for your issue. I understand you're not happy because the cost to repair but that is sometimes the case when expensive cars get old. The parts to fix are still expensive. If I have the time I'll post the pages of text messaging explaining everything and you thanking me and asking me for everything, asking me to do stuff for free, etc....
